Writing a Picture Book: A Virtual Workshop with Terry Farish

Saturday, August 212:30—3:30 PMVirtual EventWorcester, MA, 01608

Picture books for children are poems with pictures. They can be funny. They can bring a family memory to life. Maria Popova describes picture books as “stories that tackle with elegant simplicity such complexities as uncertainty, loneliness, loss, and the cycle of life.” Please join author Terry Farish to explore components that help a picture book sing. In this one-hour workshop with a focus on writing the picture book, participants will sample many kinds of stories that are a part of the genre. Terry will also offer prompts and guidelines for participants to write their own picture book.

Terry Farish is the author of four picture books. Her first is The Cat Who Liked Potato Soup, illustrated by Barry Root, (Candlewick). Her forthcoming picture book is A Feast for Joseph with OD Bonny, illustrated by Ken Daley. (Groundwood) Her young adult books include The Good Braider, a novel in verse. She volunteers for The Telling Room supporting international teen writers.
