Adriana Herrera: Domestic Violence in Romance: Write the Story Survivors Deserve

Saturday, January 1511:00 AM—12:00 PMVirtual EventWorcester, MA, 01608

After this workshop attendants will understand basic concepts about trauma (specifically PTSD), how it can impact survivors of interpersonal violence, have an understanding of intimate partner violence, and learn what are some inaccurate (and potentially harmful) myths about IPV for all couples. They will have a better grasp on how to responsibly write survivor stories that are informed, respectful and foster hope, and will walk away with some tools used by domestic violence advocates that would help craft a viable Happily Ever After.

A USA Today Best Selling author, Adriana Herrera was born and raised in the Caribbean, but for the last fifteen years has let her job (and her spouse) take her all over the world. She loves writing stories about people who look and sound like her people, getting unapologetic happy endings. When she’s not dreaming up love stories, planning logistically complex vacations with her family or hunting for discount Broadway tickets, she’s a trauma therapist in New York City, working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
